GOD'S WORD Translation (GW) New International Version (NIV)
The LORD is my light and my salvation. Who is there to fear? The LORD is my life's fortress. Who is there to be afraid of? 1 The LORD is my light and my salvation-- whom shall I fear? The LORD is the stronghold of my life-- of whom shall I be afraid?
Evildoers closed in on me to tear me to pieces. My opponents and enemies stumbled and fell. 2 When evil men advance against me to devour my flesh, when my enemies and my foes attack me, they will stumble and fall.
Even though an army sets up camp against me, my heart will not be afraid. Even though a war breaks out against me, I will still have confidence [in the LORD]. 3 Though an army besiege me, my heart will not fear; though war break out against me, even then will I be confident.
I have asked one thing from the LORD. This I will seek: to remain in the LORD's house all the days of my life in order to gaze at the LORD's beauty and to search for an answer in his temple. 4 One thing I ask of the LORD, this is what I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the LORD and to seek him in his temple.
He hides me in his shelter when there is trouble. He keeps me hidden in his tent. He sets me high on a rock. 5 For in the day of trouble he will keep me safe in his dwelling; he will hide me in the shelter of his tabernacle and set me high upon a rock.
Now my head will be raised above my enemies who surround me. I will offer sacrifices with shouts of joy in his tent. I will sing and make music to praise the LORD. 6 Then my head will be exalted above the enemies who surround me; at his tabernacle will I sacrifice with shouts of joy; I will sing and make music to the LORD.
Hear, O LORD, when I cry aloud. Have pity on me, and answer me. 7 Hear my voice when I call, O LORD; be merciful to me and answer me.
[When you said,] "Seek my face," my heart said to you, "O LORD, I will seek your face." 8 My heart says of you, "Seek his face!" Your face, LORD, I will seek.
Do not hide your face from me. Do not angrily turn me away. You have been my help. Do not leave me! Do not abandon me, O God, my savior! 9 Do not hide your face from me, do not turn your servant away in anger; you have been my helper. Do not reject me or forsake me, O God my Savior.
Even if my father and mother abandon me, the LORD will take care of me. 10 Though my father and mother forsake me, the LORD will receive me.
Teach me your way, O LORD. Lead me on a level path because I have enemies who spy on me. 11 Teach me your way, O LORD; lead me in a straight path because of my oppressors.
Do not surrender me to the will of my opponents. False witnesses have risen against me. They breathe out violence. 12 Do not turn me over to the desire of my foes, for false witnesses rise up against me, breathing out violence.
I believe that I will see the goodness of the LORD in this world of the living. 13 I am still confident of this: I will see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living.
Wait with hope for the LORD. Be strong, and let your heart be courageous. Yes, wait with hope for the LORD. 14 Wait for the LORD; be strong and take heart and wait for the LORD.
