New Living Translation (NLT) New International Version (NIV)
A psalm of David. O LORD, you are my rock of safety. Please help me; don't refuse to answer me. For if you are silent, I might as well give up and die. 1 To you I call, O LORD my Rock; do not turn a deaf ear to me. For if you remain silent, I will be like those who have gone down to the pit.
Listen to my prayer for mercy as I cry out to you for help, as I lift my hands toward your holy sanctuary. 2 Hear my cry for mercy as I call to you for help, as I lift up my hands toward your Most Holy Place.
Don't drag me away with the wicked -- with those who do evil -- those who speak friendly words to their neighbors while planning evil in their hearts. 3 Do not drag me away with the wicked, with those who do evil, who speak cordially with their neighbors but harbor malice in their hearts.
Give them the punishment they so richly deserve! Measure it out in proportion to their wickedness. Pay them back for all their evil deeds! Give them a taste of what they have done to others. 4 Repay them for their deeds and for their evil work; repay them for what their hands have done and bring back upon them what they deserve.
They care nothing for what the LORD has done or for what his hands have made. So he will tear them down like old buildings, and they will never be rebuilt! 5 Since they show no regard for the works of the LORD and what his hands have done, he will tear them down and never build them up again.
Praise the LORD! For he has heard my cry for mercy. 6 Praise be to the LORD, for he has heard my cry for mercy.
The LORD is my strength, my shield from every danger. I trust in him with all my heart. He helps me, and my heart is filled with joy. I burst out in songs of thanksgiving. 7 The LORD is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in him, and I am helped. My heart leaps for joy and I will give thanks to him in song.
The LORD protects his people and gives victory to his anointed king. 8 The LORD is the strength of his people, a fortress of salvation for his anointed one.
Save your people! Bless Israel, your special possession! Lead them like a shepherd, and carry them forever in your arms. 9 Save your people and bless your inheritance; be their shepherd and carry them forever.
