New Living Translation (NLT) New International Version (NIV)
A psalm of David, sung at the dedication of the Temple. I will praise you, LORD, for you have rescued me. You refused to let my enemies triumph over me. 1 I will exalt you, O LORD, for you lifted me out of the depths and did not let my enemies gloat over me.
O LORD my God, I cried out to you for help, and you restored my health. 2 O LORD my God, I called to you for help and you healed me.
You brought me up from the grave, O LORD. You kept me from falling into the pit of death. 3 O LORD, you brought me up from the grave; you spared me from going down into the pit.
Sing to the LORD, all you godly ones! Praise his holy name. 4 Sing to the LORD, you saints of his; praise his holy name.
His anger lasts for a moment, but his favor lasts a lifetime! Weeping may go on all night, but joy comes with the morning. 5 For his anger lasts only a moment, but his favor lasts a lifetime; weeping may remain for a night, but rejoicing comes in the morning.
When I was prosperous I said, "Nothing can stop me now!" 6 When I felt secure, I said, "I will never be shaken."
Your favor, O LORD, made me as secure as a mountain. Then you turned away from me, and I was shattered. 7 O LORD, when you favored me, you made my mountain stand firm; but when you hid your face, I was dismayed.
I cried out to you, O LORD. I begged the Lord for mercy, saying, 8 To you, O LORD, I called; to the Lord I cried for mercy:
"What will you gain if I die, if I sink down into the grave? Can my dust praise you from the grave? Can it tell the world of your faithfulness? 9 "What gain is there in my destruction, in my going down into the pit? Will the dust praise you? Will it proclaim your faithfulness?
Hear me, LORD, and have mercy on me. Help me, O LORD." 10 Hear, O LORD, and be merciful to me; O LORD, be my help."
You have turned my mourning into joyful dancing. You have taken away my clothes of mourning and clothed me with joy, 11 You turned my wailing into dancing; you removed my sackcloth and clothed me with joy,
that I might sing praises to you and not be silent. O LORD my God, I will give you thanks forever! 12 that my heart may sing to you and not be silent. O LORD my God, I will give you thanks forever.
