(31-1) <To David himself, understanding.> Blessed are they whose iniquities are forgiven, and whose sins are covered. 1 Blessed is he whose transgressions are forgiven, whose sins are covered.
(31-2) Blessed is the man to whom the Lord hath not imputed sin, and in whose spirit there is no guile. 2 Blessed is the man whose sin the LORD does not count against him and in whose spirit is no deceit.
(31-3) Because I was silent my bones grew old; whilst I cried out all the day long. 3 When I kept silent, my bones wasted away through my groaning all day long.
(31-4) For day and night thy hand was heavy upon me: I am turned in my anguish, whilst the thorn is fastened. 4 For day and night your hand was heavy upon me; my strength was sapped as in the heat of summer. "Selah"
(31-5) I have acknowledged my sin to thee, and my injustice I have not concealed. I said I will confess against my self my injustice to the Lord: and thou hast forgiven the wickedness of my sin. 5 Then I acknowledged my sin to you and did not cover up my iniquity. I said, "I will confess my transgressions to the LORD"-- and you forgave the guilt of my sin. "Selah"
(31-6) For this shall every one that is holy pray to thee in a seasonable time. And yet in a flood of many waters, they shall not come nigh unto him. 6 Therefore let everyone who is godly pray to you while you may be found; surely when the mighty waters rise, they will not reach him.
(31-7) Thou art my refuge from the trouble which hath encompassed me: my joy, deliver me from them that surround me. 7 You are my hiding place; you will protect me from trouble and surround me with songs of deliverance. "Selah"
(31-8) I will give thee understanding, and I will instruct thee in this way, in which thou shalt go: I will fix my eyes upon thee. 8 I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you and watch over you.
(31-9) Do not become like the horse and the mule, who have no understanding. With bit and bridle bind fast their jaws, who come not near unto thee. 9 Do not be like the horse or the mule, which have no understanding but must be controlled by bit and bridle or they will not come to you.
(31-10) Many are the scourges of the sinner, but mercy shall encompass him that hopeth in the Lord. 10 Many are the woes of the wicked, but the LORD's unfailing love surrounds the man who trusts in him.
(31-11) Be glad in the Lord, and rejoice, ye just, and glory, all ye right of heart. 11 Rejoice in the LORD and be glad, you righteous; sing, all you who are upright in heart!
