New Living Translation (NLT) New International Version (NIV)
A psalm of David, regarding the time he pretended to be insane in front of Abimelech, who sent him away. I will praise the LORD at all times. I will constantly speak his praises. 1 I will extol the LORD at all times; his praise will always be on my lips.
I will boast only in the LORD; let all who are discouraged take heart. 2 My soul will boast in the LORD; let the afflicted hear and rejoice.
Come, let us tell of the LORD's greatness; let us exalt his name together. 3 Glorify the LORD with me; let us exalt his name together.
I prayed to the LORD, and he answered me, freeing me from all my fears. 4 I sought the LORD, and he answered me; he delivered me from all my fears.
Those who look to him for help will be radiant with joy; no shadow of shame will darken their faces. 5 Those who look to him are radiant; their faces are never covered with shame.
I cried out to the LORD in my suffering, and he heard me. He set me free from all my fears. 6 This poor man called, and the LORD heard him; he saved him out of all his troubles.
For the angel of the LORD guards all who fear him, and he rescues them. 7 The angel of the LORD encamps around those who fear him, and he delivers them.
Taste and see that the LORD is good. Oh, the joys of those who trust in him! 8 Taste and see that the LORD is good; blessed is the man who takes refuge in him.
Let the LORD's people show him reverence, for those who honor him will have all they need. 9 Fear the LORD, you his saints, for those who fear him lack nothing.
Even strong young lions sometimes go hungry, but those who trust in the LORD will never lack any good thing. 10 The lions may grow weak and hungry, but those who seek the LORD lack no good thing.
Come, my children, and listen to me, and I will teach you to fear the LORD. 11 Come, my children, listen to me; I will teach you the fear of the LORD.
Do any of you want to live a life that is long and good? 12 Whoever of you loves life and desires to see many good days,
Then watch your tongue! Keep your lips from telling lies! 13 keep your tongue from evil and your lips from speaking lies.
Turn away from evil and do good. Work hard at living in peace with others. 14 Turn from evil and do good; seek peace and pursue it.
The eyes of the LORD watch over those who do right; his ears are open to their cries for help. 15 The eyes of the LORD are on the righteous and his ears are attentive to their cry;
But the LORD turns his face against those who do evil; he will erase their memory from the earth. 16 the face of the LORD is against those who do evil, to cut off the memory of them from the earth.
The LORD hears his people when they call to him for help. He rescues them from all their troubles. 17 The righteous cry out, and the LORD hears them; he delivers them from all their troubles.
The LORD is close to the brokenhearted; he rescues those who are crushed in spirit. 18 The LORD is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.
The righteous face many troubles, but the LORD rescues them from each and every one. 19 A righteous man may have many troubles, but the LORD delivers him from them all;
For the LORD protects them from harm -- not one of their bones will be broken! 20 he protects all his bones, not one of them will be broken.
Calamity will surely overtake the wicked, and those who hate the righteous will be punished. 21 Evil will slay the wicked; the foes of the righteous will be condemned.
But the LORD will redeem those who serve him. Everyone who trusts in him will be freely pardoned. 22 The LORD redeems his servants; no one will be condemned who takes refuge in him.
