| 1 To the chief Musician, [A Psalm] of David the servant of the LORD. The transgression of the wicked saith within my heart, [that there is] no fear of God before his eyes. | 1 An oracle is within my heart concerning the sinfulness of the wicked: There is no fear of God before his eyes. |
| 2 For he flattereth himself in his own eyes, until his iniquity is found to be hateful. | 2 For in his own eyes he flatters himself too much to detect or hate his sin. |
| 3 The words of his mouth [are] iniquity and deceit: he hath ceased to be wise, [and] to do good. | 3 The words of his mouth are wicked and deceitful; he has ceased to be wise and to do good. |
| 4 He deviseth mischief upon his bed; he setteth himself in a way [that is] not good; he abhorreth not evil. | 4 Even on his bed he plots evil; he commits himself to a sinful course and does not reject what is wrong. |
| 5 Thy mercy, O LORD, [is] in the heavens; [and] thy faithfulness [reacheth] to the clouds. | 5 Your love, O LORD, reaches to the heavens, your faithfulness to the skies. |
| 6 Thy righteousness [is] like the great mountains; thy judgments [are] a great deep: O LORD, thou preservest man and beast. | 6 Your righteousness is like the mighty mountains, your justice like the great deep. O LORD, you preserve both man and beast. |
| 7 How excellent [is] thy loving-kindness, O God! therefore the children of men put their trust under the shadow of thy wings. | 7 How priceless is your unfailing love! Both high and low among men find refuge in the shadow of your wings. |
| 8 They shall be abundantly satisfied with the fatness of thy house; and thou shalt make them drink of the river of thy pleasures. | 8 They feast on the abundance of your house; you give them drink from your river of delights. |
| 9 For with thee [is] the fountain of life: in thy light shall we see light. | 9 For with you is the fountain of life; in your light we see light. |
| 10 O continue thy loving-kindness to them that know thee; and thy righteousness to the upright in heart. | 10 Continue your love to those who know you, your righteousness to the upright in heart. |
| 11 Let not the foot of pride come against me, and let not the hand of the wicked remove me. | 11 May the foot of the proud not come against me, nor the hand of the wicked drive me away. |
| 12 There are the workers of iniquity fallen: they are cast down, and shall not be able to rise. | 12 See how the evildoers lie fallen-- thrown down, not able to rise! |
