O Lord, do not rebuke me in your anger, or discipline me in your wrath. 1 O LORD, do not rebuke me in your anger or discipline me in your wrath.
For your arrows have sunk into me, and your hand has come down on me. 2 For your arrows have pierced me, and your hand has come down upon me.
There is no soundness in my flesh because of your indignation; there is no health in my bones because of my sin. 3 Because of your wrath there is no health in my body; my bones have no soundness because of my sin.
For my iniquities have gone over my head; they weigh like a burden too heavy for me. 4 My guilt has overwhelmed me like a burden too heavy to bear.
My wounds grow foul and fester because of my foolishness; 5 My wounds fester and are loathsome because of my sinful folly.
I am utterly bowed down and prostrate; all day long I go around mourning. 6 I am bowed down and brought very low; all day long I go about mourning.
For my loins are filled with burning, and there is no soundness in my flesh. 7 My back is filled with searing pain; there is no health in my body.
I am utterly spent and crushed; I groan because of the tumult of my heart. 8 I am feeble and utterly crushed; I groan in anguish of heart.
O Lord, all my longing is known to you; my sighing is not hidden from you. 9 All my longings lie open before you, O Lord; my sighing is not hidden from you.
My heart throbs, my strength fails me; as for the light of my eyes—it also has gone from me. 10 My heart pounds, my strength fails me; even the light has gone from my eyes.
My friends and companions stand aloof from my affliction, and my neighbors stand far off. 11 My friends and companions avoid me because of my wounds; my neighbors stay far away.
Those who seek my life lay their snares; those who seek to hurt me speak of ruin, and meditate treachery all day long. 12 Those who seek my life set their traps, those who would harm me talk of my ruin; all day long they plot deception.
But I am like the deaf, I do not hear; like the mute, who cannot speak. 13 I am like a deaf man, who cannot hear, like a mute, who cannot open his mouth;
Truly, I am like one who does not hear, and in whose mouth is no retort. 14 I have become like a man who does not hear, whose mouth can offer no reply.
But it is for you, O Lord, that I wait; it is you, O Lord my God, who will answer. 15 I wait for you, O LORD; you will answer, O Lord my God.
For I pray, "Only do not let them rejoice over me, those who boast against me when my foot slips." 16 For I said, "Do not let them gloat or exalt themselves over me when my foot slips."
For I am ready to fall, and my pain is ever with me. 17 For I am about to fall, and my pain is ever with me.
I confess my iniquity; I am sorry for my sin. 18 I confess my iniquity; I am troubled by my sin.
Those who are my foes without cause are mighty, and many are those who hate me wrongfully. 19 Many are those who are my vigorous enemies; those who hate me without reason are numerous.
Those who render me evil for good are my adversaries because I follow after good. 20 Those who repay my good with evil slander me when I pursue what is good.
Do not forsake me, O Lord; O my God, do not be far from me; 21 O LORD, do not forsake me; be not far from me, O my God.
make haste to help me, O Lord, my salvation. 22 Come quickly to help me, O Lord my Savior.
