New Living Translation (NLT) New International Version (NIV)
For the choir director: A psalm of the descendants of Korah. As the deer pants for streams of water, so I long for you, O God. 1 As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for you, O God.
I thirst for God, the living God. When can I come and stand before him? 2 My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When can I go and meet with God?
Day and night, I have only tears for food, while my enemies continually taunt me, saying, "Where is this God of yours?" 3 My tears have been my food day and night, while men say to me all day long, "Where is your God?"
My heart is breaking as I remember how it used to be: I walked among the crowds of worshipers, leading a great procession to the house of God, singing for joy and giving thanks -- it was the sound of a great celebration! 4 These things I remember as I pour out my soul: how I used to go with the multitude, leading the procession to the house of God, with shouts of joy and thanksgiving among the festive throng.
Why am I discouraged? Why so sad? I will put my hope in God! I will praise him again -- my Savior and 5 Why are you downcast, O my soul? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Savior and
my God! Now I am deeply discouraged, but I will remember your kindness -- from Mount Hermon, the source of the Jordan, from the land of Mount Mizar. 6 my God. My soul is downcast within me; therefore I will remember you from the land of the Jordan, the heights of Hermon--from Mount Mizar.
I hear the tumult of the raging seas as your waves and surging tides sweep over me. 7 Deep calls to deep in the roar of your waterfalls; all your waves and breakers have swept over me.
Through each day the LORD pours his unfailing love upon me, and through each night I sing his songs, praying to God who gives me life. 8 By day the LORD directs his love, at night his song is with me-- a prayer to the God of my life.
"O God my rock," I cry, "Why have you forsaken me? Why must I wander in darkness, oppressed by my enemies?" 9 I say to God my Rock, "Why have you forgotten me? Why must I go about mourning, oppressed by the enemy?"
Their taunts pierce me like a fatal wound. They scoff, "Where is this God of yours?" 10 My bones suffer mortal agony as my foes taunt me, saying to me all day long, "Where is your God?"
Why am I discouraged? Why so sad? I will put my hope in God! I will praise him again -- my Savior and my God! 11 Why are you downcast, O my soul? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Savior and my God.
