Good News Translation (GNT) New International Version (NIV)
The Almighty God, the Lord, speaks; he calls to the whole earth from east to west. 1 The Mighty One, God, the LORD, speaks and summons the earth from the rising of the sun to the place where it sets.
God shines from Zion, the city perfect in its beauty. 2 From Zion, perfect in beauty, God shines forth.
Our God is coming, but not in silence; a raging fire is in front of him, a furious storm around him. 3 Our God comes and will not be silent; a fire devours before him, and around him a tempest rages.
He calls heaven and earth as witnesses to see him judge his people. 4 He summons the heavens above, and the earth, that he may judge his people:
He says, "Gather my faithful people to me, those who made a covenant with me by offering a sacrifice." 5 "Gather to me my consecrated ones, who made a covenant with me by sacrifice."
The heavens proclaim that God is righteous, that he himself is judge. 6 And the heavens proclaim his righteousness, for God himself is judge. "Selah"
"Listen, my people, and I will speak; I will testify against you, Israel. I am God, your God. 7 "Hear, O my people, and I will speak, O Israel, and I will testify against you: I am God, your God.
I do not reprimand you because of your sacrifices and the burnt offerings you always bring me. 8 I do not rebuke you for your sacrifices or your burnt offerings, which are ever before me.
And yet I do not need bulls from your farms or goats from your flocks; 9 I have no need of a bull from your stall or of goats from your pens,
all the animals in the forest are mine and the cattle on thousands of hills. 10 for every animal of the forest is mine, and the cattle on a thousand hills.
All the wild birds are mine and all living things in the fields. 11 I know every bird in the mountains, and the creatures of the field are mine.
"If I were hungry, I would not ask you for food, for the world and everything in it is mine. 12 If I were hungry I would not tell you, for the world is mine, and all that is in it.
Do I eat the flesh of bulls or drink the blood of goats? 13 Do I eat the flesh of bulls or drink the blood of goats?
Let the giving of thanks be your sacrifice to God, and give the Almighty all that you promised. 14 Sacrifice thank offerings to God, fulfill your vows to the Most High,
Call to me when trouble comes; I will save you, and you will praise me." 15 and call upon me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you will honor me."
But God says to the wicked, "Why should you recite my commandments? Why should you talk about my covenant? 16 But to the wicked, God says: "What right have you to recite my laws or take my covenant on your lips?
You refuse to let me correct you; you reject my commands. 17 You hate my instruction and cast my words behind you.
You become the friend of every thief you see, and you associate with adulterers. 18 When you see a thief, you join with him; you throw in your lot with adulterers.
"You are always ready to speak evil; you never hesitate to tell lies. 19 You use your mouth for evil and harness your tongue to deceit.
You are ready to accuse your own relatives and to find fault with them. 20 You speak continually against your brother and slander your own mother's son.
You have done all this, and I have said nothing, so you thought that I am like you. But now I reprimand you and make the matter plain to you. 21 These things you have done and I kept silent; you thought I was altogether like you. But I will rebuke you and accuse you to your face.
"Listen to this, you that ignore me, or I will destroy you, and there will be no one to save you. 22 "Consider this, you who forget God, or I will tear you to pieces, with none to rescue:
Giving thanks is the sacrifice that honors me, and I will surely save all who obey me." 23 He who sacrifices thank offerings honors me, and he prepares the way so that I may show him the salvation of God."
