A Psalm of Asaph. The mighty God, [even] the LORD, hath spoken, and called the earth from the rising to the setting of the sun. 1 The Mighty One, God, the LORD, speaks and summons the earth from the rising of the sun to the place where it sets.
Out of Zion, the perfection of beauty, God hath shined. 2 From Zion, perfect in beauty, God shines forth.
Our God shall come, and shall not keep silence: a fire shall devour before him, and it shall be very tempestuous around him. 3 Our God comes and will not be silent; a fire devours before him, and around him a tempest rages.
He shall call to the heavens from above, and to the earth, that he may judge his people. 4 He summons the heavens above, and the earth, that he may judge his people:
Gather my saints together to me; those that have made a covenant with me by sacrifice. 5 "Gather to me my consecrated ones, who made a covenant with me by sacrifice."
And the heavens shall declare his righteousness: for God [is] judge himself. Selah. 6 And the heavens proclaim his righteousness, for God himself is judge. "Selah"
Hear, O my people, and I will speak; O Israel, and I will testify against thee: I [am] God, [even] thy God. 7 "Hear, O my people, and I will speak, O Israel, and I will testify against you: I am God, your God.
I will not reprove thee for thy sacrifices or thy burnt-offerings, [to have been] continually before me. 8 I do not rebuke you for your sacrifices or your burnt offerings, which are ever before me.
I will take no bullock out of thy house, [nor] he-goats out of thy folds. 9 I have no need of a bull from your stall or of goats from your pens,
For every beast of the forest [is] mine, [and] the cattle upon a thousand hills. 10 for every animal of the forest is mine, and the cattle on a thousand hills.
I know all the fowls of the mountains: and the wild beasts of the field [are] mine. 11 I know every bird in the mountains, and the creatures of the field are mine.
If I were hungry, I would not tell thee: for the world [is] mine, and the fullness thereof. 12 If I were hungry I would not tell you, for the world is mine, and all that is in it.
Will I eat the flesh of bulls, or drink the blood of goats? 13 Do I eat the flesh of bulls or drink the blood of goats?
Offer to God thanksgiving; and pay thy vows to the Most High: 14 Sacrifice thank offerings to God, fulfill your vows to the Most High,
And call upon me in the day of trouble: I will deliver thee, and thou shalt glorify me. 15 and call upon me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you will honor me."
But to the wicked God saith, What hast thou to do to declare my statutes, or [that] thou shouldest take my covenant in thy mouth? 16 But to the wicked, God says: "What right have you to recite my laws or take my covenant on your lips?
Seeing thou hatest instruction, and castest my words behind thee. 17 You hate my instruction and cast my words behind you.
When thou sawest a thief, then thou consentedst with him, and hast been partaker with adulterers. 18 When you see a thief, you join with him; you throw in your lot with adulterers.
Thou givest thy mouth to evil, and thy tongue frameth deceit. 19 You use your mouth for evil and harness your tongue to deceit.
Thou sittest [and] speakest against thy brother; thou slanderest thy own mother's son. 20 You speak continually against your brother and slander your own mother's son.
These [things] hast thou done, and I kept silence; thou thoughtest that I was altogether [such an one] as thyself: [but] I will reprove thee, and set [them] in order before thine eyes. 21 These things you have done and I kept silent; you thought I was altogether like you. But I will rebuke you and accuse you to your face.
Now consider this, ye that forget God, lest I tear [you] in pieces, and [there be] none to deliver. 22 "Consider this, you who forget God, or I will tear you to pieces, with none to rescue:
Whoever offereth praise glorifieth me: and to him that ordereth [his] deportment [aright] will I show the salvation of God. 23 He who sacrifices thank offerings honors me, and he prepares the way so that I may show him the salvation of God."
