Good News Translation (GNT) New International Version (NIV)
Be merciful to me, O God, because of your constant love. Because of your great mercy wipe away my sins! 1 Have mercy on me, O God, according to your unfailing love; according to your great compassion blot out my transgressions.
Wash away all my evil and make me clean from my sin! 2 Wash away all my iniquity and cleanse me from my sin.
I recognize my faults; I am always conscious of my sins. 3 For I know my transgressions, and my sin is always before me.
I have sinned against you - only against you - and done what you consider evil. So you are right in judging me; you are justified in condemning me. 4 Against you, you only, have I sinned and done what is evil in your sight, so that you are proved right when you speak and justified when you judge.
I have been evil from the day I was born; from the time I was conceived, I have been sinful. 5 Surely I was sinful at birth, sinful from the time my mother conceived me.
Sincerity and truth are what you require; fill my mind with your wisdom. 6 Surely you desire truth in the inner parts; you teach me wisdom in the inmost place.
Remove my sin, and I will be clean; wash me, and I will be whiter than snow. 7 Cleanse me with hyssop, and I will be clean; wash me, and I will be whiter than snow.
Let me hear the sounds of joy and gladness; and though you have crushed me and broken me, I will be happy once again. 8 Let me hear joy and gladness; let the bones you have crushed rejoice.
Close your eyes to my sins and wipe out all my evil. 9 Hide your face from my sins and blot out all my iniquity.
Create a pure heart in me, O God, and put a new and loyal spirit in me. 10 Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.
Do not banish me from your presence; do not take your holy spirit away from me. 11 Do not cast me from your presence or take your Holy Spirit from me.
Give me again the joy that comes from your salvation, and make me willing to obey you. 12 Restore to me the joy of your salvation and grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me.
Then I will teach sinners your commands, and they will turn back to you. 13 Then I will teach transgressors your ways, and sinners will turn back to you.
Spare my life, O God, and save me, and I will gladly proclaim your righteousness. 14 Save me from bloodguilt, O God, the God who saves me, and my tongue will sing of your righteousness.
Help me to speak, Lord, and I will praise you. 15 O Lord, open my lips, and my mouth will declare your praise.
You do not want sacrifices, or I would offer them; you are not pleased with burnt offerings. 16 You do not delight in sacrifice, or I would bring it; you do not take pleasure in burnt offerings.
My sacrifice is a humble spirit, O God; you will not reject a humble and repentant heart. 17 The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart, O God, you will not despise.
O God, be kind to Zion and help her; rebuild the walls of Jerusalem. 18 In your good pleasure make Zion prosper; build up the walls of Jerusalem.
Then you will be pleased with proper sacrifices and with our burnt offerings; and bulls will be sacrificed on your altar. 19 Then there will be righteous sacrifices, whole burnt offerings to delight you; then bulls will be offered on your altar.
