When they finished, James spoke up. “Brothers,” he said, “listen to me.
14 Simon a raconté comment Dieu a d'abord jeté les regards sur les nations pour choisir du milieu d'elles un peuple qui portât son nom.

Simon has described to us how God first intervened to choose a people for his name from the Gentiles.
15 Et avec cela s'accordent les paroles des prophètes, selon qu'il est écrit:

The words of the prophets are in agreement with this, as it is written:
16 Après cela, je reviendrai, et je relèverai de sa chute la tente de David, J'en réparerai les ruines, et je la redresserai,

“ ‘After this I will return and rebuild David’s fallen tent. Its ruins I will rebuild, and I will restore it,
17 Afin que le reste des hommes cherche le Seigneur, Ainsi que toutes les nations sur lesquelles mon nom est invoqué, Dit le Seigneur, qui fait ces choses,

that the rest of mankind may seek the Lord, even all the Gentiles who bear my name, says the Lord, who does these things’ —

“It is my judgment, therefore, that we should not make it difficult for the Gentiles who are turning to God.
20 mais qu'on leur écrive de s'abstenir des souillures des idoles, de l'impudicité, des animaux étouffés et du sang.

Instead we should write to them, telling them to abstain from food polluted by idols, from sexual immorality, from the meat of strangled animals and from blood.
21 Car, depuis bien des générations, Moïse a dans chaque ville des gens qui le prêchent, puisqu'on le lit tous les jours de sabbat dans les synagogues.

For the law of Moses has been preached in every city from the earliest times and is read in the synagogues on every Sabbath.”
