Jeremiah 23:20-30

WBT

NIV

20 The anger of the LORD shall not return, until he shall have executed, and till he shall have performed the thoughts of his heart: in the latter days ye shall consider it perfectly.
20 The anger of the LORD will not turn back until he fully accomplishes the purposes of his heart. In days to come you will understand it clearly.
21 I have not sent these prophets, yet they ran: I have not spoken to them, yet they prophesied
21 I did not send these prophets, yet they have run with their message; I did not speak to them, yet they have prophesied.
22 But if they had stood in my counsel, and had caused my people to hear my words, then they would have turned them from their evil way, and from the evil of their doings.
22 But if they had stood in my council, they would have proclaimed my words to my people and would have turned them from their evil ways and from their evil deeds.
23 [Am] I a God at hand, saith the LORD, and not a God afar off.
23 “Am I only a God nearby,” declares the LORD, “and not a God far away?
24 Can any hide himself in secret places that I shall not see him? saith the LORD. Do not I fill heaven and earth? saith the LORD.
24 Who can hide in secret places so that I cannot see them?” declares the LORD. “Do not I fill heaven and earth?” declares the LORD.
25 I have heard what the prophets said, that prophesy lies in my name, saying, I have dreamed, I have dreamed.
25 “I have heard what the prophets say who prophesy lies in my name. They say, ‘I had a dream! I had a dream!’
26 How long shall [this] be in the heart of the prophets that prophesy lies? yes, [they are] prophets of the deceit of their own heart;
26 How long will this continue in the hearts of these lying prophets, who prophesy the delusions of their own minds?
27 Who think to cause my people to forget my name by their dreams which they tell every man to his neighbor, as their fathers have forgotten my name for Baal.
27 They think the dreams they tell one another will make my people forget my name, just as their ancestors forgot my name through Baal worship.
28 The prophet that hath a dream, let him tell a dream; and he that hath my word, let him speak my word faithfully. What [is] the chaff to the wheat? saith the LORD?
28 Let the prophet who has a dream recount the dream, but let the one who has my word speak it faithfully. For what has straw to do with grain?” declares the LORD.
29 [Is] not my word like a fire? saith the LORD? and like a hammer [that] breaketh the rock in pieces?
29 “Is not my word like fire,” declares the LORD, “and like a hammer that breaks a rock in pieces?
30 Therefore behold, I [am] against the prophets, saith the LORD, that steal my words every one from his neighbor.
30 “Therefore,” declares the LORD, “I am against the prophets who steal from one another words supposedly from me.
