The Charge Against Israel

1 Hear the word of the LORD, you Israelites, because the LORD has a charge1 to bring against you who live in the land:2 "There is no faithfulness,3 no love, no acknowledgment4 of God in the land.5

2 There is only cursing,a lying6 and murder,7 stealing8 and adultery;9 they break all bounds, and bloodshed follows bloodshed.10

              13 They sacrifice on the mountaintops and burn offerings on the hills, under oak,35 poplar and terebinth, where the shade is pleasant.36 Therefore your daughters turn to prostitution37 and your daughters-in-law to adultery.38

              14 "I will not punish your daughters when they turn to prostitution, nor your daughters-in-law when they commit adultery, because the men themselves consort with harlots39 and sacrifice with shrine prostitutes40-- a people without understanding41 will come to ruin!42
