Instead of this Valentine’s Day being a day that you want to skip or fast forward through, let it be a day that motivates you to look outside of yourself and love others. They can see Jesus’ love through your words and actions. People are most open to hear the gospel during crisis and change. For some people, Valentine’s Day is a small crisis. The third Monday in January marks a day of great celebration in America. Martin Luther King, Jr. was a man of God who helped pave the way for unity and freedom. Much like a modern-day Moses, King followed the prompting of the Lord and was a frontrunner to lead the African American people out of a time of great devastation. His mission and purpose still lives on today.

The fact that there have been times in our country and around the world when people, made in the image of God, have been abused and enslaved is sickening. No matter what the color of your skin or your culture, Martin Luther King, Jr. Day is a holiday well worth honoring, especially as Christians.

Depart from Me I never knew you.” This is a warning to everyone and we need to pay close attention to His statement. Today we are going to break down what Jesus meant by this phrase and how we can apply it to our own lives.

Sometimes the best thing that we can do for someone is to let them know that we are there for them, love them, are praying for them, and showing that we care. We can do this by hugs, a listening ear, prayer, and just being available. Comfort does not have to be complicated.

We gain a grander understanding of His mercies which are new each morning (Lamentations 3:22-23). We have better vision for God making all things new (2 Corinthians 5:17). We stop and reflect on our lives and the areas of growth from last year, as well as those we desire to see change in the future (Psalm 139:23-24). Today we are going to pray in the new year together with Bible verses.

There is a short, yet significant moment tucked away in the pages of the gospel of Matthew. As we anticipate the return of Christ and look back onto the story of the birth of Jesus, may we not neglect the wise men and their journey to the Savior. The wise men were led by a mysterious star to the house of the Savior of the world. As believers in Christ, we have a unique role in the ways that we too are like these stars.
