Jesus, Our Powerful Redeemer and Rescuer
Share

Jesus is the Light of the World. He allows us to see who we really are, and what our purpose on this earth was always meant to be. It is through Him we come to the Father in heaven, and are equipped to operate in the unique gifts that He has given us to serve His heavenly Kingdom here on earth. Who Jesus is changes our lives from the inside out. Paul wrote to the Colossians,
“Christ is the visible image of the invisible God. He existed before anything was created and is supreme over all creation, for though him God created everything in the heavenly realms and on the earth. He made all the things we can see and the things we can’t see-such as thrones, kingdoms, rulers, and authorities in the unseen world. Everything was created through him and for him” (Colossians 1:15-16).
The fact our God came down to earth to be with us, and sent the Holy Spirit to be with us, reflects how completely the Father provides for our every need. “Seven times in vv. 15-20 Paul mentions ‘all creation,’ ‘all things’ and ‘everything,’” the NIV Study Bible explains, “thus stressing that Christ is supreme over all.” God is a promise keeper. Hebrews 1:2 says, “And now in these final days, he has spoken to us through his Son. God promised everything to the Son as an inheritance, and through the Son he created the universe.”
God speaks to us through Jesus, who is the Living Word of God! When we create a discipline of seeking God in His Word each day, He communicates to us through it! This is how we come to God through Christ in our daily lives.
Our lives, and eventually all of creation, are redeemed through our Redeemer, our Rescuer, Christ Jesus. Paul wrote to the Romans,
“Yet what we suffer now is nothing compared to the glory he will reveal to us later. For all creation is waiting eagerly for that future day when God will reveal who his children really are. Against its will, all creation was subjected to God’s curse. But with eager hope, the creation looks forward to the day when it will join God’s children in glorious freedom from death and decay. For we know that all creation has been groaning as in the pains of childbirth right up to the present time. And we believers also groan, even though we have the Holy Spirit within us as a forecast of future glory, for we long for our bodies to be released from sin and suffering. We, too, wait with eager hope for the day when God will give us our full right as his adopted children, including the new bodies he promised us” (Romans 8:18-23).
When we surrender our lives to Christ Jesus, we not only change instantly in that moment, but are launched into the process of sanctification. Sanctification is the work the Holy Spirit does in our lives, throughout our lives, to convict and guide us to living holy lives which reflect our Lord and Savior. Ephesians 2:10 says, “For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.”
Our Father in heaven knows every hair on our heads, at any given time. He knows the number of our days, and the deep wanderings of our hearts. “Prepared in advance,” the NIV Study Bible explains, “carries forward the theme of God’s sovereign purpose and planning.” He is sovereign, all-knowing, in control. He restores all things through Christ Jesus, our Rescuer and Redeemer. He has chosen us. He calls us home. We are built with the desire to come closer to God.
Through Jesus, all things are redeemed and restored through Whom all things were created. “So from now on we regard no one from a worldly point of view,” Paul wrote, “Though we once regarded Christ in this way, we do so no longer. Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation: the old has gone, the new has come! All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself in Christ, and gave us the ministry of reconciliation” (2 Corinthians 5:16-18).
