Meditate on the True Reason for the Christmas Season: Jesus

“The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it” (John 1:5).

Christmas is the celebration of thousands of years of anticipation coming to fruition. The story the shepherds told is still traveling around the globe. When we are tempted to give in to the plethora of distractions the Christmas season brings with it, strive to keep it in focus. All of the gifts have origin in the Greatest Gift, Jesus Christ! We give because He gave. We come together because He brings us together. Forgiveness reigns the season because He forgave us. Christ Jesus cares about us in a way we may never fully come to understand. The love of the Father to sacrifice His own Son for us is the greatest love story of all time.

“And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. An angels of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. But the angel said to them, ‘Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord. This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.’ Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with angel, praising God and saying, ‘Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests’” (Luke 2:8-14).

This Christmas, keep focused on who He is, the babe in the manger. When a human being enters the world with those first shrill cries, it tugs at our emotions. How much more so does the arrival of the King of Kings and Lord of Lords breaking through the atmosphere to abide among us create a grateful lump in our throats. The tears of utter joy we cry at Christmas are rooted in overwhelming gratitude for the Savior of the Universe who so personally knows us, and remains among us through the Holy Spirit.

Merry Christmas, indeed. Glory to God, in the highest. Immanuel, God with us. Noel, a birth unlike any other! The celebration of Christ’s birth on earth should continue to touch our hearts in layers as we grow in His wisdom. There is no one who loves us more than our God. Celebrate Christmas. Be generous. Have fun! Exude joy. He came so we would live our lives to the full. The Christmas season gives us a chance to remember and embrace the blessings in our lives, and reach out to those God has put in our paths to help and serve.

If there is one thing the pandemic has reminded us of, it’s the importance of being together. God will always place people around us. Reach out, connect, and celebrate our adoption into the family of God, alongside the sweet Babe born in a manger that first Christmas night. Keeping Him at the center of Christmas, and our lives, allows us to experience the holiday, and every day, drenched in supernatural peace, joy, and love.

We can fully proclaim, here and now,

“My salvation and my honor depend on God;
He is my mighty rock, my refuge.

trust in him at all time, you people;
pour our your hearts to him,
for God is our refuge”

(Psalm 62:7-8).

Rock and Refuge. The Lord Jesus has come. The Messiah, Savior, Emmanuel, is here to stay. Though He isn’t here among us physically, His Spirit walks with us every step of the way.

Merry Christmas.

And Glory Up.
