Why Are Trumpets So Important Throughout the Bible?
Share

- In the days of Hezekiah, the Levites had instruments and the priests played trumpets before the Lord as they offered sacrifices (2 Chronicles 29:26-28).
- Again, we see priests with trumpets in Nehemiah 12:35, 41.
A concept to note is that historically, trumpets are sounded at wedding ceremonies for marriage. Jesus called Himself our Bridegroom and we, His people, are His bride. When Jesus comes back to get us, His bride, it will all begin at the sound of trumpets (Matthew 24:31).
As previously mentioned, trumpets are special because they will signal the return of Jesus. Here are some Bible prophecies about the return of Christ and the trumpet sound.
1 Corinthians 15:51-52 - “Listen, I tell you a mystery: We will not all sleep, but we will all be changed — in a flash, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed.”
1 Thessalonians 4:16 - “For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first.”
Revelation 1:10 - “On the Lord’s Day I was in the Spirit, and I heard behind me a loud voice like a trumpet.”
In Revelation 8-11, we are told about seven trumpets that will be played by seven angels.
Revelation 8:2 “And I saw the seven angels who stand before God, and seven trumpets were given to them.”
With each sound of the trumpet for each individual angel, there is a different event that occurs. To learn more about the seven trumpets, check out this article by Clarence L. Haynes. He explains, “At the heart of the seven trumpets in Revelation are the judgments that come with the blowing of each one…”
The last mention of the word trumpet in Scripture is Revelation 18:22. It tells of the destruction of Babylon (Meaning the enemy of God). This verse expresses that the enemies of God will no longer have celebration because they will be eternally punished, and evil will be demolished. This is great victory to us as believers in Jesus. Satan does not have victory in the end, and we look forward to the trumpets signaling that Jesus wins and our God reigns forever. The enemy has been defeated and will be put in His place when God say to Jesus to go get His bride.
