Génesis 17:15-25

15 Entonces Dios dijo a Abraham: A Sarai, tu mujer, no la llamarás Sarai, sino que Sara será su nombre.

16 Y la bendeciré, y de cierto te daré un hijo por medio de ella. La bendeciré y será madre de naciones; reyes de pueblos vendrán de ella.

17 Entonces Abraham se postró sobre su rostro y se rió, y dijo en su corazón: ¿A un hombre de cien años le nacerá un hijo? ¿Y Sara, que tiene noventa años, concebirá?

18 Y dijo Abraham a Dios: ¡Ojalá que Ismael viva delante de ti!

19 Pero Dios dijo: No, sino que Sara, tu mujer, te dará un hijo, y le pondrás el nombre de Isaac ; y estableceré mi pacto con él, pacto perpetuo para su descendencia después de él.

20 Y en cuanto a Ismael, te he oído; he aquí, yo lo bendeciré y lo haré fecundo y lo multiplicaré en gran manera. Engendrará a doce príncipes y haré de él una gran nación.

21 Pero mi pacto lo estableceré con Isaac, el cual Sara te dará a luz por este tiempo el año que viene.

22 Cuando terminó de hablar con él, ascendió Dios dejando a Abraham.

23 Entonces Abraham tomó a su hijo Ismael y a todos los siervos nacidos en su casa y a todos los que habían sido comprados con su dinero, a todo varón de entre las personas de la casa de Abraham, y aquel mismo día les circuncidó la carne de su prepucio, tal como Dios le había dicho.

24 Abraham tenía noventa y nueve años cuando fue circuncidado en la carne de su prepucio.

25 Y su hijo Ismael tenía trece años cuando se le circuncidó la carne de su prepucio.

INTRODUCTION TO GENESIS 17

This chapter treats of a covenant made with Abram, sometimes called the covenant of circumcision, the time when God appeared to him, and promised to make it, and did, Ge 17:1-3; the particulars of it, both with respect to himself, whose name was now changed, and to his posterity, Ge 17:4-8; the token of it, circumcision, the time of its performance, and the persons obliged to it, Ge 17:9-14; the change of Sarai's name, and a promise made that she should have a son, to the great surprise of Abraham, Ge 17:15-17; a prayer of his for Ishmael, and the answer to it, with a confirmation of Sarah's having a son, whose name should be called Isaac, and the establishment of the covenant with him, Ge 17:18-22; and the chapter is closed with an account of the circumcision of Abraham, and all his family of the male sort, agreeably to the command of God, Ge 17:23-27.
