Proverbs 26:22

22 The words of a gossip are like choice morsels that go down into the inmost being.

Proverbs 26:22 Meaning and Commentary

Proverbs 26:22

The words of a talebearer [are] as wounds, and they go down
into the innermost parts of the belly.
] These expressions are the same with those in ( Proverbs 18:8 ) ; and are here repeated, as being found along with others by the men of Hezekiah, ( Proverbs 25:1 ) ; as some others likewise are; and also because of the importance of them; and to impress the minds of men with a sense of the evil of such a practice, that they may shun it, and avoid those that are given to it. (See Gill on Proverbs 18:8).

Proverbs 26:22 In-Context

20 Without wood, a fire goes out; without gossip, a conflict ceases.
21 Like charcoal for embers and wood for fire, so is a quarrelsome man for kindling strife.
22 The words of a gossip are like choice morsels that go down into the inmost being.
23 Like glaze covering an earthen vessel are burning lips and a wicked heart.
24 A hateful man disguises himself with his speech, but he lays up deceit in his heart.
