John has recorded Jesus’ deepest conversations with His disciples, especially the long conversation during Jesus’ last supper, which is recorded in Chapters 14-17.
From John’s Gospel we also learn most fully about the Holy Spirit. We learn that without Christ’s Spirit dwelling in us, we can do nothing (John 15:5). John shows us that the work of Christ can continue only through the empowering of the Holy Spirit in the lives of believers.
Thus, when we join the first three Gospels together with John’s Gospel, we obtain a complete picture of Jesus’ life and work. But above all, as we study this Gospel, let us remember John’s purpose in writing it: namely, that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name (John 20:31).
