CHAPTER 27
A Lament for Tyre (28:1–36)
1–11 In this chapter Tyre is pictured as a magnificent ship made of the best materials in the ancient world. Tyre was filled with pride: “I am perfect in beauty,” she said (verse 3), seemingly unaware that pride goes before destruction (Proverbs 16:18).
12–24 Tyre’s trading partners are listed in these verses. The locations mentioned extend across the entire Mediterranean region and Middle East—from Tarshish (Spain) to Sheba (Yemen) at the tip of the Arabian Peninsula (verses 12,22).
25–36 But now Tyre’s “great ship” is about to sink. The east wind (the Babylonians) will break it to pieces (verse 26). And when all the people in the region see Tyre’s destruction, they will wail and mourn over her62 (verses 30–32).
