23:13 According to 22:2, David had four hundred men in his militia, but this verse states he had six hundred. These numbers reflect changing circumstances in the nation of Israel; no contradiction is involved. Saul’s unpopular actions in slaying the priestly families at Nob (22:18-19), combined with David’s military success at Keilah (23:5), had brought hundreds of men over to David’s side in hopes of bringing about a change in Israel’s leadership.
