18:2 “Became king,” that is, when his coregency ended and he became king in his own right. Hezekiah reigned twenty-nine years, until 686 BC.

18:4 Unlike the other kings, Hezekiah removed the high places.

18:17 The “field marshal” was the commander in chief. The “chief of staff” was the chief eunuch/court official. “Royal spokesman” in Hebrew means “field commander,” but the Assyrian title may have meant “chief cupbearer.”
