42:10 The Lord declared, through Jeremiah, that he relented concerning what had befallen Judah. This does not mean that he changed his mind about the judgment he permitted. God remained the same, opposed to the disobedient, but the situation had changed. The remnant of the people had turned from disobedience and pledged to obey the Lord (v. 6); if they followed through on their promise, the Lord would reestablish them in the land (26:3). His requirement of faithfulness had not changed.
