Genesis 27:13

13 His mother said to him, "Your curse be on me, my son. Just obey me and go get them for me."

Genesis 27:13 Meaning and Commentary

Genesis 27:13

And his mother said unto him, upon me [be] thy curse, my son,
&c.] That is, if thy father should curse thee, which I am well assured he will not, let the curse, be what it will, fall upon me, and not on thee; I shall bear the blame and the punishment: this she said in the strong faith of the divine oracle, being fully persuaded her scheme would succeed, and that Jacob would have the blessing, and therefore she feared no curse falling upon her or her son; and this she said to encourage him: the Targum of Onkelos is,

``to me it has been said in prophecy, that the curses shall not come upon thee, my son:''
only obey my voice, and go fetch me [them];
the two fat kids of the goats from the flock.

Genesis 27:13 In-Context

11 Jacob answered Rebekah his mother, "Look, my brother Esau is a hairy man, but I am a man with smooth skin.
12 Suppose my father touches me. Then I will seem to be deceiving him, and I will bring a curse rather than a blessing on myself."
13 His mother said to him, "Your curse be on me, my son. Just obey me and go get them for me."
14 So he went and got them and brought them to his mother, and his mother made the delicious food his father loved.
15 Then Rebekah took the best clothes of her older son Esau, which were there at the house, and had her younger son Jacob wear them.
