5 又 說 ： 看 哪 ， 這 地 的 以 色 列 人 如 今 眾 多 ， 你 們 竟 叫 他 們 歇 下 擔 子 ！

Exodus 5:5

And Pharaoh said, behold, the people of the land now are many,
&c.] So that if some were taken off, as suggested, there were enough of them to do business and so he cared not; but if allowed to go, they might mutiny and rebel, and give a great deal of trouble to quell them; or it may be, the sense is, they were very numerous, and too numerous already, and if they were took off of their work, and allowed to go a feasting, they would be more so, which agrees with the next clause:

and you make them rest from their burdens;
which was the way to make them more numerous still, and to frustrate the design of laying burdens upon them, which was originally intended to hinder the multiplication of them, ( Exodus 1:9-14 ) .

3 他 們 說 ： 希 伯 來 人 的 　 神 遇 見 了 我 們 。 求 你 容 我 們 往 曠 野 去 ， 走 三 天 的 路 程 ， 祭 祀 耶 和 華 ─ 我 們 的 　 神 ， 免 得 他 用 瘟 疫 、 刀 兵 攻 擊 我 們 。

4 埃 及 王 對 他 們 說 ： 摩 西 、 亞 倫 ！ 你 們 為 甚 麼 叫 百 姓 曠 工 呢 ？ 你 們 去 擔 你 們 的 擔 子 罷 ！

5 又 說 ： 看 哪 ， 這 地 的 以 色 列 人 如 今 眾 多 ， 你 們 竟 叫 他 們 歇 下 擔 子 ！

6 當 天 ， 法 老 吩 咐 督 工 的 和 官 長 說 ：

7 你 們 不 可 照 常 把 草 給 百 姓 做 磚 ， 叫 他 們 自 己 去 撿 草 。
