6
When they had gone through the whole island as far as Paphos, they came upon a certain
1magician,
2a Jewish false prophet named Bar-Jesus.
7
He was with
3the proconsul, Sergius Paulus, a man of intelligence, who summoned Barnabas and Saul and sought to hear the word of God.
8
But Elymas the
4magician (for that is the meaning of his name)
5opposed them, seeking to turn
6the proconsul away from the faith.

But Saul, who was also called Paul,
7filled with the Holy Spirit, looked intently at him
10
and said, “You
8son of the devil, you enemy of all righteousness, full of all deceit and
9villainy, will you not stop

12the hand of the Lord is upon you, and you will be blind and unable to see the sun for a time. ” Immediately mist and darkness fell upon him, and he went about seeking
13people to lead him by the hand.
12
Then the proconsul believed, when he saw what had occurred, for he was astonished at
14the teaching of the Lord.

15John left them and returned
16to Jerusalem,
14
but they went on from Perga and came to Antioch in Pisidia. And
17on the Sabbath day
18they went into the synagogue and sat down.
15
After
19the reading from
20the Law and the Prophets,
21the rulers of the synagogue sent a message to them, saying, “Brothers, if you have any
22word of encouragement for the people, say it. ”

So Paul stood up, and
23motioning with his hand said: “Men of Israel and
