2 Samuel 23:14

And David [was] then in an hold
In a strong hold; the strong hold of Zion, as Josephus F24, or one on a rock near the cave of Adullam, see ( 1 Chronicles 11:15 ) ;

and the garrison of the Philistines [was] then [in] Bethlehem;
which was about six miles from Jerusalem; the valley of Rephaim lay between that and Bethlehem; so far had they got into the land of Judea, and such footing in it, as to have a garrison so near its metropolis.

12 costui si presentò in mezzo del campo, e lo riscosse, e percosse i Filistei. E il Signore diede una gran vittoria.
13 Ora questi tre capi de’ colonnelli vennero a Davide, al tempo della ricolta, nella spelonca di Adullam. Ed allora lo stuolo de’ Filistei era accampato nella valle de’ Rafei.
14 E Davide era allora nella fortezza; ed in quel tempo i Filistei aveano guernigione in Bet-lehem
15 E Davide fu mosso di desiderio, e disse: Chi mi darà da bere dell’acqua della cisterna di Bet-lehem, ch’è alla porta?
16 E que’ tre prodi penetrarono nel campo de’ Filistei, e attinsero dell’acqua dalla cisterna di Bet-lehem, ch’è alla porta; e la portarono, e la presentarono a Davide; ma egli non volle berne, anzi la sparse al Signore,
