21 Guai a coloro che si reputano savi, e che sono intendenti appo loro stessi.

Isaiah 5:21

Woe unto [therm that are] wise in their own eyes
And yet betray such stupidity and sottishness, as to call things by their wrong names; and make such a perverse judgment of them, as before described. This is a true description of the Scribes and Pharisees in Christ's time; who said, "dost thou teach us? are we blind also?" ( John 9:34-40 ) and prudent in their own sight;
being wise above what was written; leaving the word of God, and following the traditions of the elders.

19 I quali dicono: Affrettisi pure, e solleciti l’opera sua, acciocchè, noi la veggiamo; ed accostisi, e venga pure il consiglio del Santo d’Israele, acciocchè noi lo conosciamo.
20 Guai a coloro che dicono del male bene, e del bene male; i quali fanno delle tenebre luce, e della luce tenebre; i quali fanno dell’amaro il dolce, e del dolce l’amaro!
21 Guai a coloro che si reputano savi, e che sono intendenti appo loro stessi.
22 Guai a coloro che son valenti a bere il vino, e prodi a mescer la cervogia!
23 A coloro che giustificano l’empio per presenti, e tolgono a’ giusti la lor ragione!
