33 Ecco, noi saliamo in Gerusalemme; e il Figliuol dell’uomo sarà dato nelle mani de’ principali sacerdoti, e degli Scribi; ed essi lo condanneranno a morte, e lo metteranno nelle mani de’ Gentili;

Marco 10:33 Meaning and Commentary

Mark 10:33

[Saying], behold we go up to Jerusalem
They were now upon the road thither.

And the son of man;
meaning himself,

shall be delivered unto the chief priests, and unto the Scribes;
by the determinate counsel, and foreknowledge of God, and by the means of a treacherous disciple of his, Judas. The Vulgate Latin version adds, "and to the elders"; but this is not in any of the copies, nor in other versions:

and they shall condemn him to death;
as they did in the palace of the high priest, "nemine contradicente"; see ( Mark 14:64 ) ,

and shall deliver him to the Gentiles;
the Romans, to Pontius Pilate, the Roman governor; either because they had not then power to put him to death themselves, or because they were desirous he should die the death of the cross, a Roman punishment.

31 Ma, molti primi saranno ultimi, e molti ultimi saranno primi.

32 OR essi erano per cammino, salendo in Gerusalemme; e Gesù andava innanzi a loro, ed essi erano spaventati, e lo seguitavano con timore. Ed egli, tratti di nuovo da parte i dodici, prese a dir loro le cose che gli avverrebbero, dicendo:

33 Ecco, noi saliamo in Gerusalemme; e il Figliuol dell’uomo sarà dato nelle mani de’ principali sacerdoti, e degli Scribi; ed essi lo condanneranno a morte, e lo metteranno nelle mani de’ Gentili;

34 i quali lo scherniranno, e lo flagelleranno, e gli sputeranno addosso, e l’uccideranno; ma nel terzo giorno egli risusciterà.

35 E Giacomo, e Giovanni, figliuoli di Zebedeo si accostarono a lui, dicendo: Maestro, noi desideriamo che tu ci faccia ciò che chiederemo.
