Psalm 119:71

Listen to Psalm 119:71

Psalm 119:71 Meaning and Commentary

Psalms 119:71

[It is] good for me that I have been afflicted
The good and profit of which he had observed before; (See Gill on Psalms 119:67). The following end being also answered thereby,

that I might learn thy statutes;
to understand them, and to keep them. Afflictions are sometimes as a school to the people of God, in which they learn much both of their duty and of their privileges; and when they are teaching and instructive, they are for good; see ( Psalms 94:12 ) .

Psalm 119:71 In-Context

69 Arrogant people have smeared me with lies, [yet] I obey your guiding principles with all my heart.
70 Their hearts are cold and insensitive, [yet] I am happy with your teachings.
71 It was good that I had to suffer in order to learn your laws.
72 The teachings [that come] from your mouth are worth more to me than thousands in gold or silver.
73 Your hands created me and made me what I am. Help me understand so that I may learn your commandments.
