Exodus 12:49 Meaning and Commentary

Exodus 12:49

One law shall be to him that is homeborn
A proper Israelite, one that is so by descent: and unto the stranger that sojourneth among you;
that becomes a proselyte to the true religion; these were both bound by the same law, and obliged to observe the same rites and ceremonies, and partook of the same ordinances, benefits, and privileges; this was a dawn of grace to the poor Gentiles, and presignified what would be in Gospel times, when they should be fellow citizens with the saints, and of the household of God, be fellow heirs of the same body, and partakers of the promises of Christ by the Gospel, ( Ephesians 2:19 ) ( Ephesians 3:5 Ephesians 3:6 ) .

Exodus 12:49 In-Context

47 All the congregation of Yisra'el shall keep it.
48 When a stranger shall sojourn with you, and will keep the Pesach to the LORD, let all his males be circumcised, and then let him come near and keep it; and he shall be as one who is born in the land: but no uncircumcised person shall eat of it.
49 One law shall be to him who is born at home, and to the stranger who sojourns among you."
50 Thus did all the children of Yisra'el. As the LORD commanded Moshe and Aharon, so they did.
51 It happened the same day, that the LORD brought the children of Yisra'el out of the land of Mitzrayim by their hosts.
