Jeremiah 3:10

10 Yet for all this her treacherous sister Yehudah has not returned to me with her whole heart, but only in pretense, says the LORD.

Jeremiah 3:10 Meaning and Commentary

Jeremiah 3:10

And yet for all this
Though the two tribes saw the lightness and filthiness of the sin Israel was guilty of, and how the land was defiled with it, the stupidity of it, and the punishment inflicted on account of it: her treacherous sister Judah hath not turned unto me with her whole
heart, but feignedly, saith the Lord;
there was a show of reformation in Josiah's time, but it was but a show; there was no true, hearty cordial repentance for the sin of idolatry, only a feigned one; there was an outward removal of it, and reformation from it, but inwardly the desires of the heart were to it; the good king, with some few others, were hearty in it, but the greater part played the hypocrite; the following reigns proved the truth of this.

Jeremiah 3:10 In-Context

8 I saw, when, for this very cause that backsliding Yisra'el had committed adultery, I had put her away and given her a bill of divorce, yet treacherous Yehudah, her sister, didn't fear; but she also went and played the prostitute.
9 It happened through the lightness of her prostitution, that the land was polluted, and she committed adultery with stones and with stocks.
10 Yet for all this her treacherous sister Yehudah has not returned to me with her whole heart, but only in pretense, says the LORD.
11 The LORD said to me, Backsliding Yisra'el has shown herself more righteous than treacherous Yehudah.
12 Go, and proclaim these words toward the north, and say, Return, you backsliding Yisra'el, says the LORD; I will not look in anger on you; for I am merciful, says the LORD, I will not keep [anger] forever.
