saying, 'Thussays the LordGOD, "A greateagle with greatwings, longpinions and a fullplumage of manycolorscame to Lebanon and took away the top of the cedar.

"Then it sprouted and became a low, spreadingvine with its branchesturnedtoward him, but its rootsremainedunder it. So it became a vine and yieldedshoots and sent out branches.

"But there was anothergreateagle with greatwings and muchplumage; and behold, thisvinebent its rootstoward him and sent out its branches toward him from the bedswhere it was planted, that he might water it.

"Say, 'Thussays the LordGOD, "Will it thrive? Will he not pull up its roots and cutoff its fruit, so that it withers -so that all its sproutingleaveswither? And neither by greatstrengthnor by manypeople can it be raised from its roots again.

Moreover, the word of the LORDcame to me, saying,

"Saynow to the rebellioushouse, 'Do you not knowwhatthesethings mean?' Say, 'Behold, the king of Babyloncame to Jerusalem, took its king and princes and brought them to him in Babylon.

'But he rebelled against him by sending his envoys to Egypt that they might give him horses and manytroops. Will he succeed? Will he who doessuchthingsescape? Can he indeed break the covenant and escape?

'As I live,' declares the LordGOD, 'Surely* in the country of the king who put him on the throne, whoseoath he despised and whosecovenant he broke, in Babylon he shall die.

"I will spread My netover him, and he will be caught in My snare. Then I will bring him to Babylon and enter into judgment with him there regarding the unfaithfulactwhich he has committed against Me.

"All the choicemen in all his troops will fall by the sword, and the survivors will be scattered to everywind; and you will know that I, the LORD, have spoken."

Thussays the LordGOD, "I will also take a sprig from the loftytop of the cedar and set it out; I will pluck from the topmost of its youngtwigs a tenderone and I will plant it on a high and loftymountain.

"On the highmountain of Israel I will plant it, that it may bringforthboughs and bearfruit and become a statelycedar. And birds of everykind will nestunder it; they will nest in the shade of its branches.

"All the trees of the field will know that I am the LORD; I bringdown the hightree, exalt the lowtree, dry up the greentree and make the drytreeflourish. I am the LORD; I have spoken, and I will perform it."
