Jeremias 10:22

22 Behold, there comes a sound of a noise, and a great earthquake from the land of the north, to make the cities of Juda a desolation, and a resting-place for ostriches.

Jeremias 10:22 Meaning and Commentary

Jeremiah 10:22

Behold the noise of the bruit is come
Or, "the voice of hearing" F3; that is, the voice heard; the report that was made that the king of Babylon had invaded the land, and was coming up to besiege Jerusalem: "and a great commotion out of the north country"; a large army from Babylon, which lay north of Judea, which came with great noise, and caused a great trembling and shaking among the inhabitants of the land whither they were coming: to make the cities of Judah desolate, and a den of dragons;
this shows that the whole paragraph is to be understood of the Jewish nation, and of their destruction. (See Gill on Jeremiah 9:11).

Jeremias 10:22 In-Context

20 Thy tabernacle is in a ruinous state, it has perished; and all thy curtains have been torn asunder: my children and my cattle are no more: there is no more any place for my tabernacle, place for my curtains.
21 For the shepherds have become foolish, and have not sought the Lord; therefore the whole pasture has failed, and have been scattered.
22 Behold, there comes a sound of a noise, and a great earthquake from the land of the north, to make the cities of Juda a desolation, and a resting-place for ostriches.
23 I know, O Lord, that man's way is not his own; neither shall a man go, and direct his going.
24 Chasten us, O Lord, but with judgment; and not in wrath, lest thou make us few.
