John 1:13-23

13 ¹who were ^[a]born, not of ^[b]blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God.

The Word Made Flesh

14 And ²the Word ³became flesh, and ^[c]4dwelt among us, and ⁵we saw His glory, glory as of ^[d]the only begotten from the Father, full of ⁶grace and ⁷truth.

15 John ⁸testified about Him and cried out, saying, "This was He of whom I said, '⁹He who comes after me ^[e]has a higher rank than I, ¹⁰for He existed before me.' "

16 For of His ¹¹fullness ^[f]we have all received, and ^[g]grace upon grace.

17 For ¹²the Law was given through Moses; ¹³grace and ¹⁴truth ^[h]were realized through Jesus Christ.

18 ¹⁵No one has seen God at any time; ¹⁶the only begotten God who is ¹⁷in the bosom of the Father, ¹⁸He has explained Him.

The Testimony of John

19 This is ¹⁹the testimony of John, when ²⁰the Jews sent to him priests and Levites ²¹from Jerusalem to ask him, "Who are you?"

20 And he confessed and did not deny, but confessed, "²²I am not ^[i]the Christ."

21 They asked him, "What then? Are you ²³Elijah?" And he said, "I am not." "Are you ²⁴the Prophet?" And he answered, "No."

22 Then they said to him, "Who are you, so that we may give an answer to those who sent us? What do you say about yourself?"

23 He said, "I am ²⁵A VOICE OF ONE CRYING IN THE WILDERNESS, 'MAKE STRAIGHT THE WAY OF THE LORD,' as Isaiah the prophet said."
