Leviticus 8:8

8 Then Moses put the chest covering on him and put the Urim and the Thummim in the chest covering.

Leviticus 8:8 Meaning and Commentary

Leviticus 8:8

And he put the breastplate upon him
Which was made of the same materials with the ephod, and was put upon it, and fastened to it: also he put in the breastplate the Urim and Thummim:
that is, Moses did it, as all the rest; for there is no reason to be given why this should be appropriated to God as a divine work, distinct from the rest; and these seem to be the twelve precious stones set in the breastplate, whose names are given, ( Exodus 27:17-20 ) and if they are not intended, no account is here given of them; but since in ( Exodus 29:8-14 ) an account is given of the stones, and of the setting of them in the breastplate, and no mention is made of the Urim and Thummim, and here notice is taken of them, but nothing said of the stones; it seems pretty plain they must be the same; (See Gill on Exodus 28:30).

Leviticus 8:8 In-Context

6 Bringing Aaron and his sons forward, Moses washed them with water.
7 He put the inner robe on Aaron and tied the cloth belt around him. Then Moses put the outer robe on him and placed the holy vest on him. He tied the skillfully woven belt around him so that the holy vest was tied to Aaron.
8 Then Moses put the chest covering on him and put the Urim and the Thummim in the chest covering.
9 He also put the turban on Aaron's head. He put the strip of gold, the holy crown, on the front of the turban, as the Lord commanded him to do.
10 Then Moses put the special oil on the Holy Tent and everything in it, making them holy for the Lord.
