Philemon 1:21

21 I write this letter, knowing that you will do what I ask you and even more.

Philemon 1:21 Meaning and Commentary

Philemon 1:21

Having confidence in thy obedience
In his obedience of faith to Christ, and his Gospel; he having been made willing in the day of his power to serve him, as well as to be saved by him; and being constrained by his love, and the Spirit of Christ having wrought in him both to will and to do of his good pleasure:

l wrote unto thee, knowing that thou wilt also do more than I say;
the knowledge the apostle had of Philemon's cheerful obedience to Christ in all the parts of duty, encouraged him to write to him, on this head; believing that he would even do more than he had desired of him.

Philemon 1:21 In-Context

19 I, Paul, am writing this with my own hand. I will pay it back, and I will say nothing about what you owe me for your own life.
20 So, my brother, I ask that you do this for me in the Lord: Refresh my heart in Christ.
21 I write this letter, knowing that you will do what I ask you and even more.
22 One more thing -- prepare a room for me in which to stay, because I hope God will answer your prayers and I will be able to come to you.
23 Epaphras, a prisoner with me for Christ Jesus, sends greetings to you.
