Psalms 81:2

Take a psalm
Or "lift one up" F25; hold up the book, and read and sing it; or rather, lift up the voice in singing a psalm:

and bring hither the timbrel;
or "give one" F26, put the hand to one:

the pleasant harp with the psaltery;
make use of all these musical instruments in singing, and so make an agreeable melody: these were used in the times of the Old Testament, and were typical of the spiritual joy and melody in the heart, expressed by vocal singing, under the New Testament; see ( Revelation 5:8 ) ( Revelation 14:2 Revelation 14:3 ) ( 15:2 ) .

Psalm 81:2 In-Context

1 Sing for joy to God, our strength; shout out loud to the God of Jacob.
2 Begin the music. Play the tambourines. Play pleasant music on the harps and lyres.
3 Blow the trumpet at the time of the New Moon, when the moon is full, when our feast begins.
4 This is the law for Israel; it is the command of the God of Jacob.
5 He gave this rule to the people of Joseph when they went out of the land of Egypt. I heard a language I did not know, saying:
