Job 41:8

8 Lay hands on it; think of the battle; you will not do it again!

Job 41:8 Meaning and Commentary

Job 41:8

Lay thine hand upon him
If thou canst or darest. It is dangerous so to do, either to the whale or crocodile;

remember the battle;
or "look for war", as Mr. Broughton renders it; expect a fight will ensue, in which thou wilt have no share with this creature:

do no more;
if thou canst by any means escape, take care never to do the like again; or thou wilt never do so any more, thou wilt certainly die for it.

Job 41:8 In-Context

6 Will traders bargain over it? Will they divide it up among the merchants?
7 Can you fill its skin with harpoons, or its head with fishing spears?
8 Lay hands on it; think of the battle; you will not do it again!
9 Any hope of capturing it will be disappointed; were not even the gods overwhelmed at the sight of it?
10 No one is so fierce as to dare to stir it up. Who can stand before it?
