Génesis 35:6-16

6 Finalmente Jacob y todos los de su casa llegaron a Luz (también llamada Betel), en Canaán.

7 Allí Jacob edificó un altar y llamó al lugar El-betel (que significa «Dios de Betel»), porque Dios se le había aparecido allí cuando huía de su hermano Esaú.

8 Poco tiempo después murió Débora, la mujer que había cuidado a Rebeca desde niña, y fue enterrada bajo el roble que está en el valle de Betel. Desde entonces ese lugar fue llamado Alón-bacut (que significa «roble del llanto»).

9 Ahora que Jacob había regresado de Padán-aram, Dios se le apareció de nuevo en Betel. Y Dios lo bendijo

10 diciéndole: «Tu nombre es Jacob, pero ya no te llamarás Jacob. A partir de ahora tu nombre será Israel».
Así que Dios le cambió el nombre y lo llamó Israel.

11 Entonces Dios dijo: «Yo soy El-Shaddai, "Dios Todopoderoso". Sé fructífero y multiplícate. Llegarás a formar una gran nación; incluso, de ti saldrán muchas naciones. ¡Habrá reyes entre tus descendientes!

12 Y te entregaré la tierra que les di a Abraham y a Isaac. Así es, te la daré a ti y a tus descendientes».

13 Luego Dios ascendió desde el lugar donde le había hablado a Jacob.

14 Jacob levantó una columna conmemorativa para marcar el lugar donde Dios le había hablado. Luego derramó vino sobre la columna como sacrificio a Dios y la ungió con aceite de oliva.

15 Jacob llamó a aquel lugar Betel (que significa «casa de Dios»), porque allí Dios le había hablado.

INTRODUCTION TO GENESIS 35

This chapter gives an account of Jacob's going to Bethel, and building an altar there by the order and direction of God, Ge 35:1-7, where Deborah, Rebekah's nurse, died and was buried, Ge 35:8, and where God appeared to Jacob, confirmed the new name of Israel he had given him, and renewed to him the promises of the multiplication of his seed, and of their inheriting the land of Canaan, Ge 35:9-13; all which is gratefully acknowledged by Jacob, who erected a pillar in the place, and called it Bethel, in memory of God's gracious appearance to him there, Ge 35:14,15; from hence he journeyed towards his father's house, and on the way Rachel his wife fell in travail, and bore him a son, and died, and was buried near Ephrath, Ge 35:16-21; near this place Reuben committed incest with Bilhah, Ge 35:22, and the names of the twelve sons of Jacob are given, Ge 35:23-26; and the chapter is closed with an account of Jacob's arrival at his father's house, of the death of Isaac, and of his burial at the direction of his two sons, Ge 35:27-29.
