Proverbios 24

1 No envidies a la gente malvada,
ni desees su compañía.

2 Pues en su corazón traman violencia
y sus palabras siempre traen problemas.

3 Una casa se edifica con sabiduría
y se fortalece por medio del buen juicio.

4 Mediante el conocimiento se llenan sus cuartos
de toda clase de riquezas y objetos valiosos.

5 Los sabios son más poderosos que los fuertes,
y los que tienen conocimiento se hacen cada vez más fuertes.

6 Así que, no vayas a la guerra sin consejo sabio;
la victoria depende de que tengas muchos consejeros.

7 La sabiduría es demasiado elevada para los necios.
Entre los líderes en la puerta de la ciudad, los necios no tienen nada que decir.

8 Una persona que maquina el mal
se gana la fama de alborotador.

9 Las intrigas del necio son pecaminosas;
todos detestan al burlón.

10 Si fallas bajo presión,
tu fuerza es escasa.

11 Rescata a los que están injustamente condenados a morir,
sálvalos mientras van tambaleando hacia su muerte.

12 No te excuses diciendo: «Ay, no lo sabíamos».
Pues Dios conoce cada corazón y él te ve.
El que cuida tu alma sabe bien que tú sabías.
Él pagará a cada uno según merecen sus acciones.

13 Come miel, hijo mío, porque es buena,
y el panal es dulce al paladar.

14 Así también, la sabiduría es dulce a tu alma.
Si la encuentras, tendrás un futuro brillante,
y tus esperanzas no se truncarán.

15 No estés al acecho frente a la casa del justo,
ni ataques el lugar donde vive.

16 Los justos podrán tropezar siete veces, pero volverán a levantarse.
En cambio, basta una sola calamidad para derribar al perverso.

17 No te alegres cuando tus enemigos caigan;
no te pongas contento cuando tropiecen.

18 Pues el Señor
se molestará contigo
y quitará su enojo de ellos.

19 No te inquietes por causa de los que hacen el mal,
ni envidies a los perversos.

20 Pues la gente mala no tiene futuro;
la luz de los perversos se apagará.

21 Hijo mío, teme al Señor
y al rey.
No te juntes con los rebeldes,

22 porque repentinamente les vendrá la calamidad.
¿Quién sabe qué castigo les caerá
de parte del Señor
y del rey?

23 Más dichos de los sabios
A continuación hay más dichos de los sabios:
No es correcto mostrar favoritismo al emitir un juicio.

24 El juez que dice al perverso: «Eres inocente»,
será maldecido por muchos y denunciado por las naciones.

25 En cambio, les irá bien a los que condenan al culpable;
recibirán bendiciones en abundancia.

26 Una respuesta sincera
es como un beso amistoso.

27 Antes de construir tu casa
haz tus planes y prepara los campos.

28 No testifiques contra tus vecinos sin motivo;
no mientas cuando hables de ellos.

29 No digas: «¡Ahora me voy a vengar de lo que me hicieron!
¡Me desquitaré con ellos!».

30 Pasé por el campo de un perezoso,
por el viñedo de uno que carece de sentido común.

31 Vi que habían crecido espinos por todas partes.
Estaba cubierto de maleza,
y sus muros destruidos.

32 Entonces, mientras miraba y pensaba en lo que veía,
aprendí esta lección:

33 un rato más de dormir, un poquito más de sueño,
un breve descanso con los brazos cruzados,

34 entonces la pobreza te asaltará como un bandido;
la escasez te atacará como un ladrón armado.

Proverbios 24 Commentary

Chapter 24

Verses 1-2 Envy not sinners. And let not a desire ever come into thy mind, Oh that I could shake off restraints! ( 3-6 ) . Piety and prudence in outward affairs, both go together to complete a wise man. By knowledge the soul is filled with the graces and comforts of the spirit, those precious and pleasant riches. The spirit is strengthened for the spiritual work and the spiritual warfare, by true wisdom. ( 7-9 ) . A weak man thinks wisdom is too high for him, therefore he will take no pains for it. It is bad to do evil, but worse to devise it. Even the first risings of sin in the heart are sin, and must be repented of. Those that strive to make others hateful, make themselves so. Verse 10 . Under troubles we are apt to despair of relief. But be of good ( proverbs 24:11-12 ) know that his neighbour is in danger by any unjust proceeding, he is bound to do all in his power to deliver him. And what is it to suffer immortal souls to perish, when our persuasions and ( proverbs 24:13-14 ) quickened to the study of wisdom by considering both the pleasure and the profit of it. All men relish things that are sweet to the palate; but many have no relish for the things that are sweet to the purified soul, and that make us wise unto ( proverbs 24:15-16 ) do, by stumbling at some stone in his path; but gets up, and goes on his way with more care and speed. This is rather to be understood of falls into affliction, than falls into actual sin. ( proverbs 24:17-18 ) ( proverbs 24:19-20 ) ( proverbs 24:21-22 ) The godly in the land, will be quiet in the land. There may be cause to change for the better, but have nothing to do with them that are given change. ( 23-26 ) . The wisdom God giveth, renders a man fit for his station. Every one who finds the benefit of the right answer, will be attached to him that gave it. Verse 27 . We must prefer necessaries before conveniences, and not go in debt. ( proverbs 24:28-29 ) ( 30-34 ) . See what a blessing the husbandman's calling is, and what a wilderness this earth would be without it. See what great difference there is in the management even of worldly affairs. Sloth and self-indulgence are the bane of all good. When we see fields overgrown with thorns and thistles, and the fences broken down, we see an emblem of the far more deplorable state of many souls. Every vile affection grows in men's hearts; yet they compose themselves to sleep. Let us show wisdom by doubling our diligence in every good thing.

This chapter relates Rehoboam's going to Shechem to be made king, and Jeroboam's return from Egypt, 1Ki 12:1,2, the people's request to Rehoboam to be eased of their taxes, as the condition of making him king, 1Ki 12:3,4, his answer to them, after three days, having had the advice both of the old and young men, which latter he followed, and gave in a rough answer, 1Ki 12:5-15, upon which ten tribes revolted from him, and two abode by him, 1Ki 12:16-20, wherefore he meditated a war against the ten tribes, but was forbid by the Lord to engage in it, 1Ki 12:21-24 and Jeroboam, in order to establish his kingdom, and preserve the people from a revolt to the house of David, because of the temple worship at Jerusalem, devised a scheme of idolatrous worship in his own territories, 1Ki 12:25-33.
