7 Acaz envió entonces mensajeros a Tiglat Piléser, rey de Asiria, con este mensaje: «Ya que soy tu servidor y vasallo,^[a] ven y líbrame del poder del rey de Siria y del rey de Israel, que se han puesto en mi contra».

2 Kings 16:7

So Ahaz sent messengers to Tiglathpileser king of Assyria,
&c.] Of whom see ( 2 Kings 15:29 ) saying, [I am] thy servant, and thy son;
signifying, that he would be his vassal, and become tributary to him, and serve him as a servant to his master, or a son his father, on condition he would come to his assistance, and so he became his servant; hence his son Hezekiah is said to rebel against the king of Assyria, ( 2 Kings 18:1 2 Kings 18:7 ) come up and save me out of the hand of the king of Syria, and out of
the hand of the king off Israel, which rise up against me;
which assistance he had no reason to call in, since the Lord had promised him deliverance from both those kings, and gave him a sign of it, ( Isaiah 7:4-16 ) .

5 En cierta ocasión, Rezín, rey de Siria, y Pécaj hijo de Remalías, rey de Israel, marcharon hacia Jerusalén para hacerle guerra a Acaz, y sitiaron la ciudad, pero no lograron tomarla.

6 Por aquel tiempo, Rezín, rey de Siria, había reconquistado la ciudad de Elat, desalojando a los de Judá que vivían allí. Posteriormente los edomitas se establecieron en Elat, y allí se han quedado hasta el día de hoy.

7 Acaz envió entonces mensajeros a Tiglat Piléser, rey de Asiria, con este mensaje: «Ya que soy tu servidor y vasallo, ven y líbrame del poder del rey de Siria y del rey de Israel, que se han puesto en mi contra».

8 Acaz también juntó la plata y el oro que había en el templo del SEÑOR y en el tesoro del palacio real, y se lo envió todo al rey de Asiria como un regalo.

9 El rey de Asiria, accediendo a su petición, lanzó un ataque contra Damasco y conquistó la ciudad. Luego deportó a sus habitantes a Quir y mató a Rezín.
