Genesis 48:12

And Joseph brought them out from between his knees
Either from between his own, where they were kneeling, as he was sitting, in order that they might be nearer his father, to receive his blessing by the putting on of his hands; or rather from between his father's knees, he, as Aben Ezra observes, sitting on the bed, having kissed and embraced them, they were still between his knees; and that they might not be burdensome to his aged father, leaning on his breast, and especially, in order to put them in a proper position for his benediction, he took them from thence, and placed them over against him to his right and left hand: and he bowed himself with his face to the earth;
in a civil way to his father, and in reverence of him; in a religious way to God, expressing his thankfulness for all favours to him and his, and as supplicating a blessing for his sons through his father, under a divine influence and direction.

Génesis 48:12 In-Context

10 Israel ya era muy anciano, y por su avanzada edad casi no pod铆a ver; por eso Jos茅 los acerc贸, y su padre los bes贸 y abraz贸.
11 Luego le dijo a Jos茅:鈥擸a hab铆a perdido la esperanza de volver a verte, 隆y ahora Dios me ha concedido ver tambi茅n a tus hijos!
12 Jos茅 los retir贸 de las rodillas de Israel y se postr贸 rostro en tierra.
13 Luego tom贸 a sus dos hijos, a Efra铆n con la derecha y a Manas茅s con la izquierda, y se los present贸 a su padre. De esta manera Efra铆n qued贸 a la izquierda de Israel y Manas茅s a su derecha.
14 Pero Israel, al extender las manos, las entrecruz贸 y puso su derecha sobre la cabeza de Efra铆n, aunque era el menor, y su izquierda sobre la cabeza de Manas茅s, aunque era el mayor.
