25 Quando começaram a viver ali, não adoravam o SENHOR; por isso ele enviou leões para o meio deles, que mataram alguns dentre o povo.

2 Kings 17:25

And so it was at the beginning of their dwelling there, that
they feared not the Lord
Did not serve him in any manner, but their idols only, which they brought with them; whereas it was usual with Heathens to serve the gods of the country, as they reputed them, where they came, along with their own; but even this those men did not do:

therefore the Lord sent lions among them;
even into their cities, into which lions sometimes came ^F12, especially when old, out of the thickets of Jordan and other places where they haunted, see ( Jeremiah 49:19 )

which slew some of them;
this the Lord did to assert his sovereignty, authority, and mighty power, and to let them know that he could as easily clear the land of them, as they, by his permission, had cleared the land of the Israelites, Josephus ^F13 calls this a plague that was sent among them.

23 até que o SENHOR os afastou de sua presença, conforme os havia advertido por meio de todos os seus servos, os profetas. Assim, o povo de Israel foi tirado de sua terra e levado para o exílio na Assíria, onde ainda hoje permanecem.

24 O rei da Assíria trouxe gente da Babilônia, de Cuta, de Ava, de Hamate e de Sefarvaim e os estabeleceu nas cidades de Samaria para substituir os israelitas. Eles ocuparam Samaria e habitaram em suas cidades.

25 Quando começaram a viver ali, não adoravam o SENHOR; por isso ele enviou leões para o meio deles, que mataram alguns dentre o povo.

26 Então informaram o rei da Assíria: “Os povos que deportaste e fizeste morar nas cidades de Samaria não sabem o que o Deus daquela terra exige. Ele enviou leões para matá-los, pois desconhecem as suas exigências”.

27 Então o rei da Assíria deu esta ordem: “Façam um dos sacerdotes de Samaria que vocês levaram prisioneiros retornar e viver ali para ensinar as exigências do deus da terra”.
