Amós 9:1-10

Israel Será Destruído

1 Vi o Senhor junto ao altar, e ele disse:“Bata no topo das colunaspara que tremam os umbrais.Faça que elas caiamsobre todos os presentes;e os que sobrarem matarei à espada.Ninguém fugirá, ninguém escapará.

2 Ainda que escavem até às profundezas,^[a]dali a minha mão irá tirá-los.Se subirem até os céus,de lá os farei descer.

3 Mesmo que se escondam no topo do Carmelo,lá os caçarei e os prenderei.Ainda que se escondam de mim no fundo do mar,ali ordenarei à serpente que os morda.

4 Mesmo que sejam levados ao exílio por seus inimigos,ali ordenarei que a espada os mate.“Vou vigiá-los para lhes fazero mal e não o bem”.

5 Quanto ao Senhor, o SENHOR dos Exércitos,ele toca na terra, e ela se derrete,e todos os que nela vivem pranteiam;ele ergue toda a terra como o Nilo,e depois a afunda como o ribeiro do Egito.

6 Ele constrói suas câmaras altas,^[b]e firma a abóbada sobre a terra;ele reúne as águas do mar e as espalhasobre a superfície da terra.SENHOR é o seu nome.

7 “Vocês, israelitas, não são para mimmelhores do que os etíopes”,^[c]declara o SENHOR.“Eu tirei Israel do Egito,os filisteus de Caftor^[d]e os arameus de Quir.

8 “Sem dúvida, os olhos do SENHOR, o Soberano,se voltam para este reino pecaminoso.Eu o varrerei da superfície da terra,mas não destruirei totalmentea descendência de Jacó”,declara o SENHOR.

9 “Pois darei a ordeme sacudirei a nação de Israelentre todas as nações,tal como o trigo é abanado numa peneira,e nem um grão cai na terra.

10 Todos os pecadores que há no meio do meu povomorrerão à espada,todos os que dizem:‘A desgraça não nos atingirá nem nos encontrará’.

INTRODUCTION TO AMOS 9

This chapter contains the fifth and last vision the prophet saw; which represents the certain desolation of the land, city, and temple, and the slaughter of all sorts of persons, high and low, none should escape it, Am 9:1; be they where they would, they should be found out, whether in hell or heaven, on the tops of the highest mountains, or in the bottom of the sea, or in a foreign land, since the eyes of the Lord were upon them for evil, Am 9:2-4; nor could they hope to escape, when they considered his greatness and his power, and what he could do, and had done; and how they had behaved towards him, even though they were the people he had brought out of Egypt, Am 9:5-7; but though the sinful kingdom should be destroyed, yet not utterly, a remnant should be saved, Am 9:8-10; and the chapter is concluded with gracious promises of raising up the tabernacle of David fallen down, and of the return of the people of Israel to their own land; and of their settlement and continuance in it, never more to depart from it, Am 9:11-15.
