11 Car l'oreille qui m'entendait me proclamait heureux, et l'Ɠil qui me voyait me rendait tĂ©moignage.
12 Car je délivrais l'affligé qui criait, et l'orphelin qui n'avait personne pour le secourir.
13 La bĂ©nĂ©diction de celui qui s'en allait pĂ©rir venait sur moi, et je faisais chanter de joie le cƓur de la veuve.
14 Je me revĂȘtais de la justice, et elle se revĂȘtait de moi. Mon Ă©quitĂ© Ă©tait mon manteau et ma tiare.
15 J'étais les yeux de l'aveugle, et les pieds du boiteux.
16 J'étais le pÚre des pauvres, et j'étudiais à fond la cause de l'inconnu.
17 Je brisais les mĂąchoires de l'injuste, et j'arrachais la proie d'entre ses dents.
18 Et je disais: Je mourrai avec mon nid, et je multiplierai mes jours comme le phénix.
19 Ma racine sera exposée à l'eau, et la rosée passera la nuit dans mes branches.
20 Ma gloire se renouvellera en moi, et mon arc se renforcera dans ma main.
21 On m'écoutait, on attendait et on se taisait, jusqu'à ce que j'eusse donné mon avis.

Job 29:11-21 Meaning and Commentary

INTRODUCTION TO JOB 29

In this chapter Job gives an account of his former and wishes it was with him now as then; and which he describes with respect to his own person, and the favours he personally enjoyed, whether temporal or spiritual, Job 29:1-4; with respect to his family and domestic affairs, Job 29:5,6; with regard to the esteem he had from men of every age and station, Job 29:7-11; the reasons of which were the mercy and compassion he showed to the poor, the fatherless, and the widow, and the justice he administered in the execution of his office as a magistrate, Job 29:12-17; in which honour and prosperity he expected to have lived and died, Job 29:18-20; and which he further describes by the respect he had among men, and the power and authority he exercised over them, Job 29:21-25.
