1 Chronicles 13

NCV 1 David talked with all the officers of his army, the commanders of a hundred men and the commanders of a thousand men. NIV 1 David conferred with each of his officers, the commanders of thousands and commanders of hundreds. NCV 2 Then David called the people of Israel together and said, "If you think it is a good idea, and if it is what the Lord our God wants, let's send a message. Let's tell our fellow Israelites in all the areas of Israel and the priests and Levites living with them in their towns and pastures to come and join us. NIV 2 He then said to the whole assembly of Israel, “If it seems good to you and if it is the will of the LORD our God, let us send word far and wide to the rest of our people throughout the territories of Israel, and also to the priests and Levites who are with them in their towns and pasturelands, to come and join us. NCV 3 Let's bring the Ark of our God back to us. We did not use it to ask God for help while Saul was king." NIV 3 Let us bring the ark of our God back to us, for we did not inquire of it during the reign of Saul.” NCV 4 All the people agreed with David, because they all thought it was the right thing to do. NIV 4 The whole assembly agreed to do this, because it seemed right to all the people. NCV 5 So David gathered all the Israelites, from the Shihor River in Egypt to Lebo Hamath, to bring the Ark of God back from the town of Kiriath Jearim. NIV 5 So David assembled all Israel, from the Shihor River in Egypt to Lebo Hamath, to bring the ark of God from Kiriath Jearim. NCV 6 David and all the Israelites with him went to Baalah of Judah, which is Kiriath Jearim, to get the Ark of God the Lord. God's throne is between the golden, winged creatures on the Ark, and the Ark is called by his name. NIV 6 David and all Israel went to Baalah of Judah (Kiriath Jearim) to bring up from there the ark of God the LORD, who is enthroned between the cherubim—the ark that is called by the Name. NCV 7 The people carried the Ark of God from Abinadab's house on a new cart, and Uzzah and Ahio guided it. NIV 7 They moved the ark of God from Abinadab’s house on a new cart, with Uzzah and Ahio guiding it. NCV 8 David and all the Israelites were celebrating in the presence of God. With all their strength they were singing and playing lyres, harps, tambourines, cymbals, and trumpets. NIV 8 David and all the Israelites were celebrating with all their might before God, with songs and with harps, lyres, timbrels, cymbals and trumpets. NCV 9 When David's men came to the threshing floor of Kidon, the oxen stumbled, and Uzzah reached out his hand to steady the Ark. NIV 9 When they came to the threshing floor of Kidon, Uzzah reached out his hand to steady the ark, because the oxen stumbled. NCV 10 The Lord was angry with Uzzah and killed him, because he had touched the Ark. So Uzzah died there in the presence of God. NIV 10 The LORD’s anger burned against Uzzah, and he struck him down because he had put his hand on the ark. So he died there before God. NCV 11 David was angry because the Lord had punished Uzzah in his anger. Now that place is called The Punishment of Uzzah. NIV 11 Then David was angry because the LORD’s wrath had broken out against Uzzah, and to this day that place is called Perez Uzzah. NCV 12 David was afraid of God that day and asked, "How can I bring the Ark of God home to me?" NIV 12 David was afraid of God that day and asked, “How can I ever bring the ark of God to me?” NCV 13 So David did not take the Ark with him to Jerusalem. Instead, he took it to the house of Obed-Edom who was from Gath. NIV 13 He did not take the ark to be with him in the City of David. Instead, he took it to the house of Obed-Edom the Gittite. NCV 14 The Ark of God stayed with Obed-Edom's family in his house for three months, and the Lord blessed Obed-Edom's family and everything he owned. NIV 14 The ark of God remained with the family of Obed-Edom in his house for three months, and the LORD blessed his household and everything he had.
