1 Chronicles 24

GW 1 The divisions of Aaron's descendants were as follows: Aaron's sons were Nadab and Abihu, Eleazar and Ithamar. NIV 1 These were the divisions of the descendants of Aaron: The sons of Aaron were Nadab, Abihu, Eleazar and Ithamar. GW 2 Nadab and Abihu died before their father died, and neither had any children. So Eleazar and Ithamar served as priests. NIV 2 But Nadab and Abihu died before their father did, and they had no sons; so Eleazar and Ithamar served as the priests. GW 3 David, Eleazar's descendant Zadok, and Ithamar's descendant Ahimelech divided Aaron's descendants into groups for service. NIV 3 With the help of Zadok a descendant of Eleazar and Ahimelek a descendant of Ithamar, David separated them into divisions for their appointed order of ministering. GW 4 Since Eleazar's descendants had more men who were family heads than Ithamar's descendants, they were divided so that Eleazar's descendants had 16 family leaders and Ithamar's descendants had 8 family leaders. NIV 4 A larger number of leaders were found among Eleazar’s descendants than among Ithamar’s, and they were divided accordingly: sixteen heads of families from Eleazar’s descendants and eight heads of families from Ithamar’s descendants. GW 5 Both groups were divided impartially by drawing lots so that there were officers for the holy place and officers for God among both Eleazar's and Ithamar's descendants. NIV 5 They divided them impartially by casting lots, for there were officials of the sanctuary and officials of God among the descendants of both Eleazar and Ithamar. GW 6 The scribe Shemaiah was a son of Nethanel and a descendant of Levi. Shemaiah recorded their names in the presence of the king, the princes, the priest Zadok, Ahimelech (son of Abiathar), and the family leaders of the priests and Levites. One family was chosen for Eleazar, another for Ithamar. NIV 6 The scribe Shemaiah son of Nethanel, a Levite, recorded their names in the presence of the king and of the officials: Zadok the priest, Ahimelek son of Abiathar and the heads of families of the priests and of the Levites—one family being taken from Eleazar and then one from Ithamar. GW 7 The first lot drawn was for Jehoiarib, the second for Jedaiah, NIV 7 The first lot fell to Jehoiarib, the second to Jedaiah, GW 8 the third for Harim, the fourth for Seorim, NIV 8 the third to Harim, the fourth to Seorim, GW 9 the fifth for Malchiah, the sixth for Mijamin, NIV 9 the fifth to Malkijah, the sixth to Mijamin, GW 10 the seventh for Hakkoz, the eighth for Abijah, NIV 10 the seventh to Hakkoz, the eighth to Abijah, GW 11 the ninth for Jeshua, the tenth for Shecaniah, NIV 11 the ninth to Jeshua, the tenth to Shekaniah, GW 12 the eleventh for Eliashib, the twelfth for Jakim, NIV 12 the eleventh to Eliashib, the twelfth to Jakim, GW 13 the thirteenth for Huppah, the fourteenth for Jeshebeab, NIV 13 the thirteenth to Huppah, the fourteenth to Jeshebeab, GW 14 the fifteenth for Bilgah, the sixteenth for Immer, NIV 14 the fifteenth to Bilgah, the sixteenth to Immer, GW 15 the seventeenth for Hezir, the eighteenth for Happizzez, NIV 15 the seventeenth to Hezir, the eighteenth to Happizzez, GW 16 the nineteenth for Pethahiah, the twentieth for Jehezkel, NIV 16 the nineteenth to Pethahiah, the twentieth to Jehezkel, GW 17 the twenty-first for Jachin, the twenty-second for Gamul, NIV 17 the twenty-first to Jakin, the twenty-second to Gamul, GW 18 the twenty-third for Delaiah, the twenty-fourth for Maaziah.
